this is what i wore today to drive my sister and her friend to the movies for her birthday and for a how i met your mother session with the boy.
Photobucket
top - living doll, tights - no idea, blazer - op shop
Photobucket
the bow was originally attatched to the top, but only by a safety pin so i added it to my beret.

delays

much needed time spent with the boy has delayed this post by a couple of days. the day in question i ventured out for coffee and vanilla slice with a friend before some op shopping. i also picked up the new frankie which is always the highlight of my week
Photobucket
my purchases included a mink pink top and a few scarves
i wore this
Photobucket
skirt - mink pink, top - op shop, blazer - op shop, beret - op shop, tights - gift
i do love my new beret.
Photobucket
now i'm off to read frankie and huddle against the cold.

busy bee

i have insufficiant internet access to properly blog at the moment as well as insufficiant time and energy. in saying this i do have a number of things i hope to blog about when i do have the wherewithall including a yummy new shampoo i am using and a new beret i bought for just $1.50
also down to just over two weeks until my european holiday! much excitment and anticipation. i am desperately in need of a holiday.

rearranging

i've just sat down after rearranging my bedroom. i quite like it. the bed is now the central feature as it should be and it can be accessed from both sides which is good feng shui. i am also now sitting at my desk which i was unable to do before and should be better for my back as i won't be hunching over my laptop on my bed.
as promised here is the coat i purchased the other day for just $3. i love half price sales at opshops.
Photobucket
and here is what i am wearing today to go shopping for boring things for my holiday and have coffee with a friend.
Photobucket
i have noticed changes are a bit of a trend at the moment within the fashion blog community. everyone seems to be moving house, rearranging places and starting new projects. i'm very excited for everyone who is brave enough to inject something new into their lives. i am a very big believer in the saying change is like a holiday.
ciao

spare time and internet access have been sparse if late so i have little to form an interesting post with. i did purchase a gorgeous new coat the other day but i will post pictures of that at a later date.
apologies for my boringness

more rain

alas the wet weather continues and as the rain worsens so does my sniffly nose. the boy and i are fond of exchanging colds and mutating them for each others benifit. i was eager to wander down the street and do some op shopping and maybe pick up the next percy jackson book but the incliment weather caused me to run screaming under a blanket. mm snuggly. i am now thinking i may do some baking.

Photobucket

the great thing about this dress is that i keep discovering new tops i can wear beneath it. whilst this doesn't quite create a new outfit it does stop me from looking too lazy by wearing the same out fit too often. you can't quite see in the picture but i love the shoulders on this top. i really like the scrunched shoulder thing alot of labels are favouring at the moment. plus this one came from target and hence was only $18, a good staple me thinks.
top - target, dress - op shop, beret - op shop, stocking - from mother dear
i seem to be in a rambling mood today so i must stop myself.

return of the rainy days

i knew it wouldn't last but it was still sad to wake up to normal rainy winter weather. i decided to try out the boots i aquired through mother dearest a little while back which are actually in at the moment.
i wore my hair in braids to work so it's quite curly, similar to the way it was when i was little. before i started school and got a big girl bob.

nearly spring cleaning

today was another late winter sunny day. to celebrate i decided to some early spring cleaning and was quite impressed with myself and the dent i made in the foot long list of housework that needed doing.
to keep me cheery whilst cleaning i wore my new dress from retrostar.

Photobucket

it is incredibly pretty and makes me very excited for summer even though we still haven't reached spring yet. i hope to grow my collection of these types of dresses.
i also hung me new audrey hepburn print and finished the third percy jackson book. beware before you begin reading the series as they are - dare i say it - nearly as addictive as harry potter.

sunday fun

today the boy and i made the most of a clear sunny day and headed into melbourne with our bikes in the car. we unloaded them at the botanical gardens and rode along southbank. my bike is this gorgeous old graecross the boy found in a hard rubbish pile and polished up for me. i love, though it just needs a wicker basket on the front.
the only shop we went to was retro star where i bought a gorgeous dress which i can tell is going to be a summer staple.
we watched a busker who juggled a chainsaw and then swallowed a sword whilst juggling fire - amazing yet scary at the same time. he also did that strange ball juggling that david bowie does in the labirynth.
after lunch we found a patch of grass to lie on and soak up the sun. it was one of those crisp days where spring just pops its head up to let you know it's on it's way

on our travels yesterday the boyfriend and i discovered this audrey hepburn canvas print for $10 from a bargain shop. it fits in nicely with my growing collection of audrey related items.
Photobucket
other recent purchases include a laura ashley sunhat ($7 - op shop), a mustard coloured travel bag ($5.50 - op shop) and the second book in the percy jackson series, don't judge me.
just a month until i head off for europe!

little miss sniffles

after putting up a good fight i have finally succumbed to the cold that has been floating around. so the initial plan for the day was to mope around watching movies and recooperating in my comfy winter clothes.
Photobucket
jumper - op shops, tights - from mother dear, bag - op shop

however after meeting up for coffee with i friend i wound up going to see inception. amazing movie with a killer cast. i still swoon over leonardo dicaprio and ellen page is my idol. add the kid from 3rd rock from the sun whose name escapes me and i'm sold. i highly recommend.

i have done my first major alteration under the advice of the 'fashion doctors' from alice euphemia and here is the result. i am quite pleased.

my melbourne

headed into the city with my sister today to visit the 'fashion doctors' at alice euphemia. it's an amazing store which only carries australian designers. as part of the state design festival, alice brought together a panel of doctors to address three items of clothing and give tips and assistance in how to alter and restyle them. i jumped at the oppurtunity and brought three items i held onto because of their potential but didn't quite know what to do with. the girls were lovely and had heaps of good advice which i can't wait to get started on, more about the finished garments later on.
apart from that highlight the rest of the day was great. we visited some old favourites and discovered some new ones. i find melbourne an incredibly inspirational city and i think it will always be closest to my heart.

an open letter to bloggers of the world

for someone bordering falling in the "techno generation" category this might sound silly, but the internet never fails to amaze me. despite growing up as it evolved and not being able to remember a time when it didn't exist i am stil awed by the vast amouunt of information and ispiration that can be attained with a few mouse clicks.
the world of blogging has opened my eyes even wider the last few months. the ease with which people can now share ideas and events is astounding. i sometimes feel i can wander down to an antique fair in sunny new york whilst snuggled up in front of my computer in utterly freezing melbourne
i want to say thank you to all the bloggers i have discovered recently and those who first caught my interest for the world you have opened up to me and the possibilities i am discovering. i am no longer afraid to be myself in the way i dress. i get a shudder of excitment every time i put together a new outfit. i can now derive amazing amounts of happiness from the simple act of getting dressed every morning.
i can only hope that one day i will be the same source of inspiration for another.

pretty much a lazy day today before i have to work, the delights of a saturday night at a fast food restauraunt. kids movies are the order of the day. i just finished watching percy jackson and the lightening thief for the third time in as many days. dare i say it is nearly as good as harry potter? i must get my hands on the books. next up is the universal version of peter pan which makes me want to stay a child forever.
Photobucket
Photobucket
i also turned my hand to some crafting today. some of the buttons i bought off ebay are now proudly attatched to a hair comb. i need to start some more projects because i am becoming a little bored.

lazy suzan

i am begining to remember why i failed at every attempt at keeping a diary. i can become extremely lazy and forget for days at a time. add to that the effort it takes on my computer to upload and resize photos and you get a very unmotivated me. yet i struggle on.
apoologies once again for the lack of photos to mask my dull ramblings, i will invest more effort soon

mumble mumble

apologies once again for the lack of posts and the lack of photos, my computer is currently disagreeing with photobucket. i have tried to post some photos in the past few days and wound up nearly hurling my beloved laptop against the wall.
my new beret arrived yesterday much to my excitment. it is slightly small for my engorged head but is still gorgeous and i can't get enough of it.
headed out last night to the only local venue with a halfway decent nightlife. i could barely breath for all the bogans. still, a good night was had by all. there is nothing better than dancing/staggering drunkly on a packed dance floor in platform heels whilst people 'accidently' brush your arse/boob.
today i must confess i am wearing jeans but to compensate for my laziness i have overloaded on the accessories and may break out the heels again.
many thanks if you have gotten this far through my ramblings, my internet should be recharged soon.

street trek

headed down the street this morning to run some errands and catch up for coffee and a chat with a friend. this is what i wore

Photobucket
cardigan, top, beret and pearls - various op shops, tights - who knows?, boots - target
i also snapped theses up. the jacket is a size 6 but fits well apart from being a little snug. the top is a size 18 but looks good on and i couldn't go past the bow and the cuffs, adorable. the jacket i snagged from the $2 rack in an otherwise much over priced op shop, the blouse was $5

well not so much school as a short course to further my 'career' at work. it's only been six months since i finished high school but i forgot how tiring learning is. thankfuly now the workshops are finished i can work through at my own - quick - pace
i've been having alot of fun with my resolution to be more daring with my wardrobe and im gaining confidence.

i dont have pictures, so a thousand words will have to do

my camera battery died before i could photograph what i'm currently wearing. i say currently wearing because i spent most of the day in uniform. this afternoon i pulled out my highwaisted skirt and teamed it with a flowery blouse and knee high socks for that slightly librarian look
it is now only 2 months and 4 days before i set off on my eurpean adventure so i am madly trying to save sufficient spending money, hence my recent purchaces have been limited. i did however pick up the novels pride and prejudice and gentlemen prefer blondes for $1 and $2 respectively.
a new beret is also coming towards me from ebay land. a woolen, '60s camel coloured beret to be exact for $12 and free postage. my black one is get a work out this winter so it will be good to mix things up.
sorry about the lack of pictures to distract from my ramblings, teach me for being slack and ignoring the flashing battery sign

happy we have a female prime minister day

oh what a world we are living in, though i do wish some t.v. stations would recognise there is other news than someone starting a new job.

in other news my mid-year resolutions are coming along quite likely, except the whole running gag though i should have known that was a disaster before it began. on the positive side i have spent no money today, played around with my wardrobe and this is the second time i've blogged in as many days. i think a pat on the back is in order

Photobucket

these pants were bought for an old dance costume but i kept them because they look cool

the vest i snatched from my dads wardrobe

the top i stole from my sister

the gold chain was my mums

wow, i only just realised this is a completely stolen outfit

mid year resolutions

i personally believe that resolutions should not be reserved for the new year, hence i have resolved to create mid year resolutions. these are essentially my new years resolutions but slightly revised and more realistic.
1. i will blog more frequently and thouroughly, including pictures where i can
2. i will be more daring with my wardrobe and only wear jeans twice a week or less
3. i will scrimp and save so i have plenty of dosh for my trip to europe in september
4. i will eat better and run more often(which shouldnt be hard seeing as i never run)

so to kick things off here is what i purchased down the street this morning: a miniscule-hounds tooth print blouse with a white peter pan collar($4) and a silver backed brush, comb and mirror set in beautiful condition(only $10!) - they are really heavy which leads me to believe they are genuine
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
i also broke out my biker/cow girl boots today. i got from an op shop for around $15 last year but dont seem to wear them that often

i also recieved my passport today! much relieved as i hate official stuff and the whole thing was making me antsy. now that i have it in my hot little hand i can relax
Photobucket
so feel free to scold me if i drop off on my resolutions

Return of the Vintage Bag Lady

appologies - to anyone who actually reads this blog - for the lack of posts. i'm still new to the whole blogging thing and find it hard to find time to sit down and write.
since autumn and the colder weather has come at lasts (granted in spurts as this is melbourne) i have morphed into a vintage bag lady. the local op shops have amazingly revealed some wonderful hideous yet beautiful knits and i am getting quite good at layering.
for a long time i believed i had very few shoes but yesterday i discovered i may have too many and must try to wear all of them to prove they deserve to remain in the bottom of my cupboard taking up space.
my most recent purchace was actually all three seasons of black books on dvd. pure hilarity. i want to have dylan morans very scruffy children and pour him glasses of wine and sit and stare at him adoringly for hours on end.

Stall sensations

today i attended the weekly sunday market a few towns away and delighted in the number of crap stalls. a mixture of genuine antiques, broken toys and well read books several decades ago. there's a certain amount of mystery surrounging everything - is it really an antique or just a good fake? after borrowing some money from the boyfriend i secured myself a gorgeous jewellry box. it has some genuine and some newer parts, but for $20 i was more than happy.
my sister and i also sampled a raspberry cupcake that looked to pretty to eat and the boyfriend found a metal ford sign and a car magazine to add to his collection
this week also saw me but my first pair of jeans in a year, up until now i have been clad in skirts or tights. i found a high waisted pair for $4 at my local op shop which fit like a glove as well as a hideously gorgeous scarf for $2 to start my winter wardrobe

Creative cups

a recent training session at work inspired me to delve into the world of latte art. people can create the most amazing images on something as basic and everyday as a cup of coffee. i'm mainly a tea or chai person myself but am slowly developing an appreciation of coffee through work.
Photobucket
my coffee buddy has recently gone on holidays for an unknown period of time. being my day off i now find myself searching for a fill in as i crave a good drink and a chat. food and drink (not necessarily alcoholic) are great fuel for good conversation and human connection.

i have decided the best song for when you are walk down the street on a sunny day, maybe a juice in hand and your favourite sunnies on is She's a Rainbow by The Rolling Stones. the whole song is just so uplifting and it brightens up an already bright day.
soundwave yesterday was great. it was really well run and had a great line up. i was also at the isis gig at the Corner Hotel on the thursday night. dinner beforehand on the rooftop beer garden was fantastic and the gig itself was amazing.
music gigs and festivals are the best place to people watch. i saw some amazing fashion and people who are not afraid to dress exactly how they want. i love my official soundwave shirt, keeping with the eqyptian theme it has an egyptian queen/goddess and a cat. also found the best ever festival food, vegan dumplings with a side of jasmine rice, asian salad and a yummy sauce, delicious. all in all a great day

Monday, February 15, 2010

the other day i bought a framed photo from one the local op shops for the bargain price of $10. it is wider than a poster but not as long, is black and white and features an embracing couple on an old bridge surrounded by doves. would take a photo but am writing this at my boyfriends whilst he attends to the other love of his life, his car.
the photo will look perfect amongst my audrey hepburn cards, just need to enlist the help of my dad to erect it.
i am now in savings overdrive after i booked my holiday to europe and realised how much money i really need. i have pledged to buy only op shop clothes (excluding underwear of course) and no more impulse buys (ie: massive black and white photos). this shouldn't be too hard given how excited i am about my trip!!
also very excited about soundwave and hopefully seeing isis aswell, depending on my work roster for next week. i have my outfit planned and am v. psyched.
the sound of the hose has faded so i assume the boy has finished feeding his obsession. must go distract him while i can.

The fallen holiday

i hate to admit it, but i love valentines day.
this is a statement that i am almost ashamed to announce after several discussions over the past few day. it seems the appeal of the global day of romance is now largely regarded as commercial and silly.
the main statement i come up against is "it doesn't have to be valentines day for me to tell them i love them". granted, fair point. but in a world of global terror and hatred, is it so wrong to have a day that centres around love and harmony?
"it's so commercial" is another commonly heard statement. this i understand, but the sad fact is we live in a commercial world where everything from religous holidays to the souls of young children are exploited to make the rich richer. the best way to fight it is to celebrate a day for it's true meaning.
so forgive me if i fall victim to the desire for a simple bunch of flowers i wouldn't see any other day and an extra big hug from my boy. i've been a hopeless romantic since i was five and i don't thing that's going to change any time soon

Delighted, I'm sure

i am newly 18 and on the brink of life. i live in what is probably the bogan capital of victoria, a haven for the kieths and shazzas of melbourne. as i currently work full time at a depressingly popular fast food out i interact with these charming examples of the human race nearly every day. i thouroughly believe that i was born in the wrong era, alas i will have to make do with today.
my list of things i adore includes: fashion, op shops, audrey hepburn, sailing, antiques, sunny days, stormy afternoons, good books, bad television, great movies, dancing, laughing, singing, eating, cooking, kissing, embracing, sneezing, trains, old cars, chai tea, fetta cheese, big dogs, fluffy cats, soft beds, beaches(the movie and the real thing), photos, sisters, friends, strangers, conversations, opportunity, old bicycles, old buildings, the city, the country, travel, learning, growing, living
my list of things I loathe includes: politicians, spiders, hot nights, litter, bad grammer, tortologies, rude customers, overly polite customers, racism, sexism, poverty, fakeness, small mindedness, pain, globalisation, new cars, waste, war, fighting, staying still, conformity, wannabes, small mindedness
well, so far it's been fun
