This dress tends to only get an airing when I'm feeling particularly fancy. There's only so many different ways you can style an obvious print. But I'm liking the pairing with these wedges I bought for a recent costume party (I was Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

To Bed

I thought it was about time I did a little bedroom tour (plus I had just cleaned up and the lighting was good so why not). I'm not sure what my aesthetic is, maybe vintage-quirky-pastel? I fiddle and adjust and add as I go. And I'm working on a bit of a feature painting wall, but curating the right pieces is proving tricky.

Most items you see are picked up second-hand or thoughtful gifts.

Bat Wing

This is what I wore for my market trip. As my style is becoming less and less fussy and more about the simple, dresses like this one have been languishing in my closet. But it's still nice to pull them out and relive a bit of early-2011-Alice.

The batwing cardigan was a sneaky purchase when I was doing buy nothing new month. Yeah I caved, I have no self controll. But it's drapey and comfy and everything you could want in a cardigan. And around 70% off. It takes a stronger woman than me to walk past that.

To Market

Whenever I have a Sunday morning free I try to make my way down to the local market. It runs just about every week and has a lot of great established stalls plus a few surprises. 

I always load up on my fruit and veg for the week and more often than not come away with something extra, whether it be flowers or a too good to miss knick knack. I like the feeling of supporting local producers and keeping the trash and treasure trade alive.

Oh and coffee is a must and maybe some dutch pancakes too.

Cheery

It seems dull to harp on about the weather, but in terms of style it has a huge impact. Despite summer being weeks away in Melbourne it has been miserable and rainy. Tights and scarves are an essential.

Something about the fit of this skirt and a simple pony tail (I never wear my hair this way) makes me feel slightly cheer-leader-esque. I always wanted to be a cheer-leader - Bring It On was an all time favourite - but it's never been a big thing in Australia. I'll have to settle for jumping around ungracefully.

Cup Day

 On Tuesday I frocked up and headed in to the Melbourne Cup. Despite a growing disenchantment with the racing industry and it's treatment of horses I had a lovely day with friends. And I was asked for  a picture which pleased me no end.

This week I made the annual pilgrimage to Ballarat with my Mum and sister for my sisters dance competition. I always hope to capture heaps of photos when we go because it's such a pretty city, but I only came away with a few.

Melbourne Snaps

 At the start of the week I caught up with a friend who was travelling through Melbourne. There's nothing better than catching up with people you've travelled with. 

 I gave him a whistle stop tour of some of my favourite Melbourne spots. It was a miserable rainy day, but I managed to catch a few photos that weren't to shabby.

Catch Up

While the northern hemisphere retreats into hibernation with their pumkin-spice-this and their sweater-weather-that, Melbourne is slowly rounding the corner into spring (which apparently this year translates to hurricane-esque storms) and from there it's a hop-skip-and-a-jump to summer, Christmas, my birthday and before you know it we'll be heralding a new year! Phew.

For now, it appears my love of maxi dresses has not waned over the long winter. This one from ASOS is everything you could want. Flattering, versatile and comfortable. While I still love my vintage and flouncy dresses, lately I've been reaching for what I laughingly consider to be casual-chic. I have visions of looking like an off duty model, but with my whole 162 cm and aversion to heels a long shot is probably an understatement.

Un-pause

Oh hey. I just checked how long it's been since I've actually posted here and winced a little. And I have zero excuses. My camera has been languishing on a shelf and the only type of documentation I've been using is instagram (wishiwereaudrey if you want to play along).

So hopefully I can muster up some content soon. Until then enjoy this selfie, I've been growing out my hair and my fringe.

The Rest of Tasmania

Here are some other photos from Tasmania. We pretty much played tourist, visiting the Salamanca market (which was essentially rained out), walking up to the Cascade brewery, sampling lots of seafood and visiting the local museum. Unfortunately we didn't make it up to Mona, it's supposed to be quite eye opening.

As I mentioned, the changing light proved challenging, but I was really proud of some of the photos I managed to capture. My camera has been a little neglected lately and it made me excited to use it regularly again.
